Welcome to My New Math Blog

Who Am I?

I am a student at Baylor University. I am a middle grades math major with the goal of teaching when I graduate. I am taking a Mathematics through Technology class. This blog is going to be talking about the things we can do with technology and what I am learning in the class.

My First Blog

This is my first week in this technology class. I am pretty technology savvy. It doesn’t take a lot for me to learn new technology. I know most of things about the TI-83/84 calculator. I know the basics at least. I can do all operations, graph, and use the table. I think the things I would need to continue to learn is how to use all the different modes. There were things that we went over in the first day that I didn’t know before. I would say that I know majority of the calculator but still need to be able how to dive deeper. I struggle with the really long equations because I normally use an NSpire calculator and those are set up a little different. I know I need to learn more so that I can help my students with any questions they have.

Out of the other programs that we will be learning about, the only one I recognize and can maneuver is Desmos. We did a lesson over that in another class and we learned how we can use it and what it offers. I really enjoyed it because it allows for the students to have fun with the lesson and we can change the paces for different students. I do not know the other programs that we will learn. I have heard of geogebra and geometer’s sketchpad. I do not know how to use it, but I am excited to learn.

I am excited for this class because I can learn and further my education with technology. I have lots to learn and I am need of these resources for when I begin teaching. Since, we are at a very high technology school, it is going to be great to get these resources to use when I teach my lessons. Technology is not hard for me to learn, and I think I am going to get a lot out of this class.
